Google Tasks is a to-do list built into Calendar, Gmail and Docs. KIPRI is an Android app for reminders, birthdays and habits. Both have tasks, and the rest is different.
This comparison was written by the KIPRI developers. We tried to be fair: everything about the other app comes from its own help pages, and what it does better is listed separately.
KIPRI suits you if
besides tasks you need birthdays with early alerts and a habit tracker
you want reminders with a heads-up, quiet hours and a morning digest
you would rather not tie your tasks to a Google account: KIPRI signs you in with email
Google Tasks suits you if
you need tasks on a computer and on iPhone, not only on Android
you live in Gmail and Google Calendar: a task is created from an email and shows up on the calendar
you want a home screen widget with your task list

Google Tasks is part of Calendar and mail
According to Google’s help, a task with a date appears in Google Calendar by itself, and in Gmail an email becomes a task through «Add to Tasks». On a computer Tasks opens inside Calendar and in the side panel of Gmail, Drive and Docs. Since 2025 Google Keep reminders are saved here too.
KIPRI is not connected to mail or to a calendar, and it does not ask for calendar access. Everything in it you enter yourself, by hand or by voice.
Where Google Tasks is stronger
Platforms and volume. The help covers apps for Android, iPhone and iPad and use in a browser, and the ceiling is 100,000 tasks per account and 20,000 uncompleted tasks in one list. KIPRI has only an Android app and 200 tasks on the free plan.
Add two home screen widgets and shared tasks in Google Chat and Docs. KIPRI has neither.
What Tasks does not have
There are no birthdays and no habits in the Google Tasks help: it is a to-do list with dates. In KIPRI a birthday is a record of its own with several early alerts, and a habit is an action with a schedule, a streak and a counter.
Repeats in Tasks come with caveats. A task with subtasks cannot repeat, a repeating task cannot be moved to another list, and a single task can be deleted from a series only through Google Calendar.
Which app sends the notification
A task notification can come from the Google app, Tasks or Calendar. The help says that if several of them are installed, only one notifies you. A task with a date and time notifies at that time, a task without a time at 9 AM.
On the same page Google writes that some Android phones turn off or delay notifications for apps you do not use regularly, and suggests giving Tasks the «Alarms & Reminders» permission. KIPRI depends on the same phone settings, so there is no difference here.
Sources
Checked against the official pages on 10 October 2026. Prices and limits change; if they differ, trust the source.
If you want a to-do list next to Google mail and calendar, there is no reason to leave Tasks. If you miss birthdays, habits and a heads-up before the reminder, KIPRI has those. KIPRI has no computer or iPhone version.
When does Google Tasks notify about a task with no time?
According to Google’s help, at 9 AM. If the task has a date and time, the notification comes at that time.
Do KIPRI tasks show up in Google Calendar?
No. KIPRI does not ask for calendar access, so tasks and reminders stay inside the app.
